Senator LeAnna M. Washington
Invites the Community to Join the
Second Annual Walk to End Domestic Violence

Domestic Violence is a crime that is largely unreported and undetected in our community. The annual Walk to End Domestic Violence is an effort to shine a spotlight on this heinous crime and get victims of domestic violence the help they need.

The walk will take place on October 24 at West River Drive in Philadelphia. Registration begins at 9 a.m. The walk kicks off at 10:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by Verizon and Independence Blue Cross.

First Lady Michelle Obama has been invited to participate in the walk.

It is my hope that you all will join me to fight against the atrocities being committed against women and children by those who are supposed to love them. Let’s raise the much needed funds for domestic violence assistance.

Each year, approximately 80,000 Pennsylvanians are victims of domestic violence. According to the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, on a single day in November 2006, more than 2,477 adults and children in Pennsylvania sought the services of domestic violence agencies. In 2007, 93 victims of domestic violence in Pennsylvania lost their lives, including nine children.
