GOAL:  Participants will learn the basics of personal financial planning including how to use bank services, how to start and manage a budget, how to establish and repair credit, where to get help when experiencing financial difficulties, and how to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit.

 

WORKSHOP CONTENT:  One workshop covers two (2) financial topics for a total of two and a half (2 ½) hours.  The host agency must select two out of the ten topics listed below from FDIC’s Money Smart curriculum:

 

  • Money Matters (budgeting and money management)
  • Pay Yourself First (saving money)
  • Check It Out (using banking services)
  • Borrowing Basics (getting a loan)
  • To Your Credit (getting and understanding a credit report)
  • Charge It Right (using credit cards)
  • Keep It Safe (your rights as a banking customer)
  • Loan To Own (consumer loans)
  • Your Own Home (processes of homeownership)
  • Bank On It (building relationships with financial institutions)
  • Buried by Debt:  The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
  • Identity Theft
