UAC Program Leader Honored at White House

Helen Gym, founder of Parents United for Public Education, a UAC Program Partner,was honored with the Cesar Chavez "Champion of Change" award by the White House on March 31. This award is given toonly 10 community leaders throughout the nation "who have committed themselves to improving the lives of others in their communities and across the country."

 

For over 20 years, Helen has worked relentlessly to improve opportunities for all in the Philadelphia region. Some of Helen's accomplishments include work on the Philadelphia Public School Notebook, a nonprofit newspaper about public schools; and co-founding the Folk Art Cultural Treasures School, a charter school in Chinatown. UAC salutes Helen Gym for creating better opportunities for Philadelphia youth and driving change from the ground up!
