MLK365/Global Citizen Hosts A Successful King Day of Service

UAC would like to congratulate Program Partner MLK365/Global CitizenExecutive Director Todd Bernstein and his team on an amazing job! More than125,000 volunteers and 1,700 projects celebrated Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into citizen action. On Monday, January 20th, 2014 the19th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service was once again the largest King Day event in the nation.

 

The Annual King Day of Service, held at Girard College, drew 5,000 volunteers and 150 activities including service projects, workshops, trainings, a Health & Wellness Fair, the 3rd Annual Jobs & Opportunity Fair, and more! More than 100 volunteers, led by Mayor Michael Nutter, US Senator Robert Casey, Former US Senator Harris Wofford, Congressman Chaka Fattah, and School District Superintendent Dr. William Hite, assembled and packed needed school supplies, computers, and books to be distributed to the most underserved Philadelphia public schools.

 

The King Day of Service ended with the Philadelphia Orchestra performing their 24th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute concert which marked the beginning of a new partnership between the King Day of Service, Girard College, and the Orchestra.
